Mosaicing by Hierarchical Chamfer Matching Algorithm

چکیده

This paper presents a technique for planar image mosiacing where a series of ordered and partial overlapping images are combined into one large image in a one-by-one sequence. Hierarchical chamfer matching algorithm (HCMA) is used in image alignment to find the best matching position from edge feature in multi-resolution pyramid. Unlike many mosaicing software packages, this technique needs no human guidance of individual image location. The intensities or colors at overlapping areas are blended from intensity or color averaging of the two images. From our experiments, this technique gives good results on both gray-scale images and color images. However, the performance on images with a lot of edges needs to be further improved as the computation time is still unacceptably high.
